The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced stricter enforcement of milk safety regulations, warning that violations could attract penalties of up to ₹10 lakh as part of a major crackdown on adulteration and food safety breaches.
According to the report, the FDA plans to intensify inspections across the milk supply chain, including collection centres, transport networks, processing units and retail outlets, while strengthening surveillance through increased sampling and testing. Officials said the move is aimed at improving milk quality, protecting consumers and ensuring compliance with food safety standards, particularly amid concerns over adulteration and unsafe handling practices.
The tougher enforcement is expected to place greater compliance responsibility on dairy processors, traders and distributors, while reinforcing Maharashtra's efforts to build a safer and more transparent dairy supply chain.
