Maharashtra FDA Seizes 4,000+ Kg Dairy and Sweet Products

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized more than 4,000 kg of dairy and sweet products, along with 30 litres of milk, as part of a statewide food-safety enforcement drive during the Ganeshotsav period. The seized material was reported to be worth around ₹15.58 lakh.

The action was carried out under the leadership of Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, with food-safety teams conducting inspections and taking action against establishments where violations were detected. The enforcement drive has focused particularly on dairy products, sweets and other food items consumed extensively during the festive season.

In Mumbai, the FDA suspended the licences of four eateries following inspections that identified food-safety and hygiene-related deficiencies. Café Mondegar in Colaba was among the establishments facing regulatory action.

The inspections form part of a broader enforcement campaign by the Maharashtra FDA against food businesses that fail to comply with food-safety requirements. Recent inspections across the State have included action involving dairy products, sweets and other food commodities, reflecting increased regulatory scrutiny during the festive period.

For the dairy and sweets sector, the enforcement drive highlights the importance of maintaining raw-material quality, hygienic processing, proper storage, temperature control and compliance with food-safety requirements, particularly when demand rises sharply during festivals.

The Maharashtra FDA's actions also underline the importance of regular quality checks across the dairy and food supply chain, from milk and dairy ingredients to finished sweets and other ready-to-consume products.
