Madhya Pradesh govt to give Rs 5 per liter as milk subsidy

Madhya Pradesh govt will give Rs 5 per litre as incentive to milk producing farmers in the state. The amount will be transferred directly into their bank accounts.

Govt will bear a cost of Rs 200 crore per year on this incentive. Officials said that the focus of the Mohan Yadav-led BJP govt in MP was to increase milk production, streamline milk collection and provide its benefits to the farmers.

Govt has already reached a consensus in a meeting at the top level to give Rs 5 per litre as incentive to milk farmers. The finance department has also sanctioned the proposal. It would be brought in the cabinet meeting, likely before the model code of conduct comes in place for the Lok Sabha elections. The Dugdh Sangh in Madhya Pradesh purchases 10 lakh litres of milk from farmers every day through cooperative societies. Minister of state (independent charge) for animal husbandry and dairy, Lakhan Patel said, the proposal to give Rs 5 per litre as incentive to milk farmers is into consideration and a decision would be taken soon.

The govt is also considering working on the Amul like model in Gujarat in MP. Animal husbandry department officials said, the production of milk is not less in MP, but the collection network is poor. In Ahmedabad on 10 January, chief minister Mohan Yadav took part in a joint meeting of Sanchi and Amul to ensure procurement of milk from milk producers of MP and help dairy farmers get the right price for milk. Various possibilities were considered in the meeting.

Chief minister asked to prepare a roadmap for collective participation of milk federations and milk unions of MP and Gujarat regarding milk collection, quality control, processing, marketing, capacity building, training, human resources, welfare schemes focused on dairy farmers to strengthen the interests of milk producers and the cooperative system.

In 2021, the Uttrakhand govt had launched the ‘Milk Price Incentive Scheme‘ in Dehradun. The scheme was aimed to provide incentives benefiting around 53,000 people of Uttarakhand. The state govt is targeting to spend Rs 444.62 crore to open 500 milk sales centres in Uttarakhand. It is a Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) scheme, the amount under the scheme would go directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries through their linked bank accounts.
