Milk prices in Indore have increased by ₹2 per litre from October 1, following a revision announced by the Indore Dugdh Vikreta Sangh. The increase reflects rising cattle-feed costs, higher delivery expenses and pressure on milk production.
Under the revised rates, home-delivered milk will cost ₹65 per litre, compared with ₹63 earlier. Consumers purchasing milk directly from shops and dairy outlets will pay ₹68 per litre.
Higher Cattle-Feed Costs Drive Price Revision
Bharat Mathurawala, President of the Indore Dugdh Vikreta Sangh, said that milk producers have been facing increased costs of cattle feed, including cottonseed cake and other fodder ingredients. Lower seasonal rainfall has also affected milk production.
According to the association, the revised prices are intended to help producers manage higher operating costs. The association may review rates again if cattle-feed prices increase further or milk production remains under pressure.
Procurement Rates Increased for Farmers
Alongside the retail price revision, the association has increased the milk procurement rate paid to producers.
The procurement rate has been raised from ₹8.90 to ₹9.23 per fat unit, an increase of 33 paise per fat unit. The association stated that producers would receive approximately ₹2 more per litre under the revised arrangement, depending on milk fat content.
The revised pricing is based on milk containing approximately 5.5–6% fat.
Delivery and Distribution Costs Also Factor In
The price revision also includes an increase in home-delivery charges. The association said that rising delivery and distribution expenses have contributed to the revised consumer rates.
The latest increase follows an earlier revision on April 1, 2026, when home-delivered milk prices rose from ₹60 to ₹63 per litre, while milk sold through dairy outlets was increased to ₹65 per litre.
The latest development highlights the continuing impact of cattle-feed prices, seasonal production conditions and distribution expenses on local milk markets. For dairy businesses, balancing farmer payments, operating costs and consumer affordability remains an important challenge.
