Hatsun Agro Targets 6,000 Dairy Farms in Odisha

Hatsun Agro Product Ltd. (HAPL) has partnered with the Government of Odisha and State Bank of India (SBI) to launch ‘Go-Dhan’, an initiative aimed at strengthening dairy farming and farmer livelihoods across the state.

Under the initiative, Hatsun Agro plans to support the establishment of more than 6,000 dairy farms over the next three years in a phased manner. The programme is expected to benefit around 6,000 dairy farmers across 15 districts of Odisha.

The initiative is designed to improve farmers’ access to institutional finance, government schemes, modern dairy practices and technology. Support will cover areas including quality bovine breeds, improved cattle housing, farm mechanisation, animal nutrition and herd health.

Hatsun Agro said the programme will also leverage government subsidy schemes, including the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY), to help participating farmers access more affordable capital for establishing or expanding dairy operations.

Hatsun Agro Chairman R.G. Chandramogan said the company aims to improve farmer incomes, encourage scientific dairy farming and build a sustainable dairy ecosystem in Odisha. The company also plans to work with farmers to produce and procure milk within the state.

The milk procured through the initiative is intended to serve demand in Odisha as well as neighbouring markets such as West Bengal and North Andhra Pradesh, according to the company.

The Go-Dhan programme brings together the dairy industry, government support and institutional banking. The initiative was formally launched at the OUAT Auditorium in Bhubaneswar, with representatives from Odisha’s Department of Fisheries & Animal Resources Development, APICOL, SBI and Hatsun Agro present.

The expansion comes as Hatsun Agro continues to strengthen its presence in eastern India. The company’s earlier acquisition of Odisha-based Milky Moo was aimed at expanding its procurement and distribution capabilities in the region, along with its portfolio of value-added dairy products.

For Odisha’s dairy sector, the initiative links farm expansion, access to finance, animal productivity, milk procurement and regional market demand within a single programme. Its implementation over the next three years will determine how effectively these components translate into additional dairy capacity and farmer income.
