Goa MLAs Seek Higher Milk Support Price

Several MLAs in the Goa Legislative Assembly have demanded an increase in the support price for agricultural produce, saying farmers in the state are struggling due to low returns. During the discussion, MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye highlighted that paddy cultivation in Goa is steadily declining as the support price offered to farmers is too low to cover the cost of cultivation, urging the government to revise the rates to encourage farmers to continue paddy farming. Meanwhile, MLA Premendra Shet raised concerns about the dairy sector and called for a higher support price for milk, stating that improved pricing is necessary to help dairy farmers sustain their livelihoods and remain in the sector. The legislators stressed that better price support is essential to protect farmers’ income and revive agricultural activity in the state.
