Milk production across four of the European Union’s largest dairy producers—Germany, France, Italy, and Poland—remained above year-earlier levels in April 2026, although growth momentum slowed in most markets compared to March, according to analysis by DCA Market Intelligence. While overall milk availability continued to increase, the pace of expansion moderated, signaling a gradual easing of the strong supply growth seen during the first quarter of the year.
Organic milk production presented a mixed picture, with Germany continuing to record growth, while France, Italy, and Poland reported declines in organic output. The report noted that stronger milk solids production and ample milk supplies across the region have continued to weigh on farmgate milk prices, keeping them below 2025 levels despite steady production performance. Market analysts indicated that rising milk availability and higher component output are exerting pressure on producer returns, even as the EU dairy sector maintains solid supply fundamentals.
The outlook suggests that milk production remains resilient across key European dairy regions, but slowing growth rates and weaker milk prices could become important factors influencing producer profitability and market dynamics in the coming months.
