Dodla Dairy Q2 Profit Falls 44% as New B2B Dairy JV Gets Nod

Dodla Dairy Limited reported a 44% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to ₹36.59 crore for the second quarter of FY2026–27, despite an increase in total income. Higher expenses, particularly milk procurement costs, weighed on profitability.

For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, total income increased to ₹1,206.96 crore from ₹1,030.20 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Alongside its financial results, the company’s board approved a proposed joint venture with Meadow India Holdings Limited (MIHL) to market dairy ingredients to India’s business-to-business (B2B) market.

Revenue Growth Fails to Protect Profit Margins

Dodla Dairy’s latest results highlight the pressure that rising raw milk costs can place on dairy processors, even when income continues to grow.

Key financial highlights for Q2 FY27 include:

  • Net profit: ₹36.59 crore, down 44% from ₹65.67 crore a year earlier.
  • Total income: ₹1,206.96 crore, compared with ₹1,030.20 crore in Q2 FY26.
  • First-half net profit: ₹77.23 crore, down from ₹128.53 crore in the corresponding period last year.
  • First-half total income: ₹2,418.48 crore, compared with ₹2,053.98 crore in the previous year.

The divergence between income growth and profit performance points to the importance of procurement costs, cost control and operating efficiency in protecting dairy industry margins.

Milk Procurement Costs Remain a Key Challenge

Higher expenses, driven primarily by increased milk procurement costs, were cited as the main reason for the quarterly profit decline.

For dairy companies, procurement prices directly influence the cost of raw material used in processing and manufacturing. When these costs rise faster than selling prices or operating efficiencies improve, profitability can come under pressure.

The results underline a central challenge for organised dairy businesses: maintaining growth while balancing farmer payments, consumer affordability and sustainable operating margins.

Dodla Dairy Approves New B2B Dairy Ingredients JV

Alongside its quarterly results, Dodla Dairy’s board approved a proposal to establish a joint venture in India with Meadow India Holdings Limited.

Under the proposed ownership structure:

  • Dodla Dairy: 40% stake.
  • Meadow India Holdings Limited: 60% stake.
  • Business focus: Marketing and selling dairy ingredients to the Indian B2B market.

The proposed venture could provide Dodla Dairy with an additional route into the dairy ingredients business, serving commercial customers rather than focusing exclusively on consumer-facing milk and dairy products.

Its eventual contribution will depend on execution, customer acquisition and the commercial performance of the venture.

What This Means for India’s Dairy Industry

Dodla Dairy’s results illustrate two important trends shaping the sector: rising procurement costs can erode profits, while specialised dairy ingredients offer processors another avenue for business expansion.

For dairy companies, growth in income alone is not enough. Protecting margins requires disciplined procurement, efficient processing, effective pricing strategies and a product portfolio aligned with market demand.

The proposed B2B joint venture also highlights the potential for dairy processors to expand beyond conventional milk sales into ingredient-based business opportunities.
