CM Eknath Shinde Stricter Law Against Milk Adulteration

CM Eknath Shinde Stricter Law Against Milk Adulteration

Separate State law for milk adulteration

On Thursday, CM Eknath Shinde announced that a separate law would be enacted for strict action against those adulterating milk. “A separate state law should be passed, stricter than the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, to prevent the adulteration of milk and milk products. A recommendation will be made to the Centre to register a non-bailable case against food adulterants,” he declared.

CM Shinde directed the FDA and the dairy development department to implement a joint campaign against milk adulterants in the state and to take stringent action against them. He emphasized that food adulteration is a serious issue, significantly impacting the health of children and contributing to chronic diseases like cancer.

“Stricter action than MPDA should be taken against adulterers,” Shinde asserted. “Efforts should be made by both central and state government agencies to take effective action against food adulteration and the adulteration of milk and dairy products. Both departments will be supported with the necessary infrastructure and manpower. The Centre will be pursued for up-to-date laboratories, equipment, and mobile labs,” he added.

Quality of milk and milk products

The directive aims to bolster the state’s efforts in ensuring the safety and quality of milk and dairy products. Shinde's commitment to providing the necessary resources underscores the seriousness of the issue and the government's resolve to protect public health.

In response, the FDA and dairy development department are gearing up for a comprehensive crackdown on milk adulteration. This initiative will involve coordinated efforts to detect and eliminate adulterants from the supply chain, ensuring that consumers receive safe and pure milk.

Shinde's announcement has been welcomed by consumer advocacy groups and health experts, who have long called for more robust measures to combat food adulteration. The proposed law is expected to have far-reaching implications, setting a precedent for other states to follow in ensuring the integrity of food products.

Food safety

This move comes at a time when there is increasing awareness about food safety and quality among consumers. The new legislation and the support for advanced infrastructure and technology will significantly enhance the state's ability to monitor and enforce food safety standards.

In conclusion, CM Eknath Shinde's announcement marks a significant step towards safeguarding public health by ensuring the purity and quality of milk and dairy products in Maharashtra.
