A ₹16.80-crore fermented product dairy plant at the Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union premises is scheduled to be inaugurated by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on October 3, with the facility aimed at expanding milk processing and value-added dairy production in Madhya Pradesh.
The project has been established with a ₹6 crore grant from the Government of India and a ₹10.80 crore contribution from the Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union. The plant will have a milk-processing capacity of 40,000 litres per day.
Multiple Value-Added Dairy Products
The facility will use modern machinery and processing technology to manufacture a range of milk-based products under the Sanchi brand.
According to project details, the plant will have the capacity to process 10,000 litres of milk, 10,000 litres of curd and 30,000 litres of buttermilk per day. It will also have the capacity to produce 1,000 litres of lassi, 800 kg of shrikhand and 1,000 kg of mawa daily.
The new facility is expected to supplement the Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union's existing processing infrastructure and increase both the volume and variety of Sanchi's value-added dairy products.
Focus on Dairy Value Addition
Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union Managing Director Jaidev Biswas described the project as an initiative towards modern dairy processing and value addition.
The facility is intended to strengthen systematic processing of milk into products such as curd, buttermilk, lassi, shrikhand and mawa, while supporting the cooperative's ability to respond to market demand.
The project reflects the broader shift within India's cooperative dairy sector towards value addition and product diversification, allowing milk unions to move beyond conventional liquid-milk processing.
The October 3 programme will also include other dairy-related initiatives in Madhya Pradesh, including the digital foundation stone ceremony for a proposed ₹255-crore dairy plant in Ujjain, according to state-related reports.
The Bhopal facility will therefore add new processing capacity to the state's cooperative dairy infrastructure while expanding the range of Sanchi-branded products available to consumers.
