Arunachal Pradesh, ITBP Sign MoU to Boost Dairy Cooperatives

The Arunachal Pradesh government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to strengthen the state's dairy cooperative sector and create better market opportunities for local dairy farmers.

The agreement was signed on October 26, 2026, by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development (AHV&DD), Arunachal Pradesh, and ITBP. The occasion also marked the flag-off of packaged milk supplies at the Civil Secretariat in Itanagar.

Strengthening Market Access for Dairy Farmers

The initiative aims to establish a structured institutional market for locally produced milk, improve market linkages and encourage the development of an organised and sustainable dairy sector in the state.

Gabriel D. Wangsu, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, highlighted the importance of dairy development in increasing farmers' incomes, generating rural employment and strengthening economic self-reliance.

He emphasised that institutional partnerships can connect local producers with reliable markets, encourage dairy entrepreneurship and make dairy farming a more viable livelihood.

Focus on Milk Supply Chain and Quality

Y.V.V.J. Rajasekhar, Secretary of AHV&DD, outlined the department's efforts to strengthen the dairy value chain, covering milk production, collection, processing, packaging and marketing.

The partnership is intended to facilitate a regular supply of quality packaged milk to ITBP personnel while creating market opportunities for local dairy producers.

The department also emphasised the importance of maintaining prescribed quality and food safety standards and ensuring reliable, timely deliveries.

Supporting Sustainable Dairy Development

The collaboration represents a step towards linking local dairy production with institutional demand. By improving market access and encouraging organised dairy farming, the initiative could support rural livelihoods and strengthen the dairy ecosystem in Arunachal Pradesh.

The agreement also reflects the broader objective of promoting cooperation between government institutions and security forces to support local farmers and regional economic development.
