Amul turnover touches $11 Billion in FY 25

Home-grown dairy giant Amul is nearly a $11 billion co-operative entity. The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells milk and dairy products under the brand name Amul, registered a turnover of Rs 65,911 crore, nearly $7.75 billion, for the financial year ending March 2025.

The group turnover of the Amul brand reached Rs 90,000 crore (nearly $10.58 billion) in the 2024-25 financial year, Rs 10,000 crore more than the previous financial year when its turnover was Rs 80,000 crore ($10 billion) in the financial year 2023-24.

GCMMF managing director Jayen Mehta said that the federation achieved 11.23% growth from the previous year's sales turnover. Last year, GCMMF registered a turnover of Rs 59,545 crore ($7 billion) in the 2023-24 financial year with a growth of 8% YoY.

GCMMF and its 18 member milk unions in Gujarat improved sales of dairy products in a year considered difficult for the global and domestic dairy industry as prices of milk powder dropped to a five-year low. "Overall demand for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) also dipped last year, with the urban market dragged down by lowered consumption due to high inflation," said a source.

"Despite the challenges we faced during the year and a dull stage for the FMCG sector, we recorded sales growth in all product categories with supply chain reconfiguration, modernization, a strong distribution network and new product development and launches," said Mehta, adding that it was volume-driven growth.

GCMMF is now aiming to achieve a sales turnover of Rs 80,000 crore in the financial year 2025-26. "As we enter the new year, we are very optimistic," said Mehta.

GCMMF, the world's largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, has 36 lakh farmers across 18,600 villages of Gujarat as its members. Collectively, the cooperative and its 18 milk union members in Gujarat procure 320 lakh litres of milk every day and distribute over 22 billion packs of dairy products, including milk, butter, cheese, ghee, and ice cream, among others, every year. GCMMF ranks eighth among the top 20 dairy companies in the world in terms of milk processing, according to the International Farm Comparison Network (IFCN).
