Amul to replicate Gujarat dairy cooperative model in AP

Amul is within the strategy of replicating its famed Gujarat cooperative dairy production mannequin in Andhra Pradesh. Amul units out to make AP a hub for its enlargement to the Southern markets and Odisha. Dairy main Amul will assist about 10,000 ladies cooperatives construct a community of cow and buffalo milk production centres.

The firm has entered into an settlement with the AP government to revive and strengthen cooperative dairies within the State. Andhra Pradesh, which produces 4.Three crore litres of milk a day, is the fourth largest milk producer within the nation.

While the State government will assist in constructing the ladies cooperatives and native processing models. Amul will assist them in reaching out the produce to shoppers. It may even manufacture value-added merchandise.

State Government support

The State government will spend ₹3,500 crore to supply high quality breed cows and buffaloes to about 4.69 lakh ladies from the underprivileged sections. Amul may even procure milk from farmers in numerous districts. “Andhra Pradesh has the unique advantage of being in the proximity with top Southern markets of Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. It can also cater to the largely untapped market of Odisha,” said Sodhi.

“We will use the locally available processing capacities for now. We might build our own processing units, if need be,” he mentioned.

Sodhi, together with prime officers of Amul, was in Amaravathi on Wednesday to mark the launch of a pilot in 400 villages of Prakasam, Chittoor, and Kadapa districts. Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister formally launched the pilot on Wednesday.

After the six-month-long pilot, the milk procurement will likely be expanded to different parts of the State, with a promise to supply ₹5-7 a litre extra to the dairy farmers. Besides offering them with high quality milch animals, the State government will assist the ladies cooperatives within the upkeep of the cattle.

Bulk milk cooling models (BMCUs) will likely be arrange on the cooperatives that produce greater than 2,000 litres a day.

The Gujarat crew

Each district can have a core crew with the District Collector performing as a Special Officer (Amul Project) and Joint Collectors and Joint Director (Animal Husbandry) as members.

“We will ensure that payments are paid once in every 10 days. The women cooperative members will also get a bonus once or twice every year from the profits of the Amul project,” mentioned Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy whereas launching the venture.
