Amul milk to enter Tamil Nadu market
Amul (Anand Milk Union Ltd.) plans to gradually enter Tamil Nadu’s milk market, providing a cooperative model for local farmers, said Amit Vyas, Managing Director, Amul Dairy in Tiruchi on Saturday.
He told press persons that a milk processing plant was being set up at Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, enabling supplies to Bengaluru. “We have started selling curd in Chennai and will subsequently enter the milk market, providing a cooperative model for local farmers. We are procuring around 50,000 litres of milk near Vellore at a fair price. We aim to support farmers and improve their income by providing services such as veterinary care, to enhance milk production,” Mr. Vyas said.
Amul has been involved in organic farming sector and has launched its own organic fertilizer in the State, which has been sold on a pilot basis for the last two years. Mr. Vyas announced that Amul will begin production of organic fertilizers at its facility in Namakkal within the next 10 days. The company plans to despatch products across southern India, targeting Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. Amul will be offering its organic fertilizers in multiple forms, including powder, granules, and liquid, ensuring a wide range of solutions to farmers.
Additionally, Amul plans to procure organic agricultural produce from Tamil Nadu and market it under the trusted Amul brand, further promoting organic farming in the region, Mr. Vyas added.
