17 High-Genetic US Bulls Arrive to Boost Kashmir Dairy

In a major step to strengthen dairy productivity, the Animal Husbandry Department (AHD) of Jammu & Kashmir has imported 17 high-genetic-merit dairy bulls from the United States as part of a breeding improvement programme aimed at enhancing milk yields in the region.
The elite bulls will be used to produce high-quality frozen semen doses at government semen stations, which will then be distributed for artificial insemination across the Union Territory to upgrade local cattle genetics. Officials said the initiative is intended to accelerate genetic improvement of dairy animals and support farmers by increasing milk productivity and improving the quality of livestock in the Valley.
The programme forms part of the government’s broader strategy to modernise the livestock sector through scientific breeding and advanced reproductive technologies. Authorities expect the introduction of high-genetic-merit bulls to significantly strengthen the dairy value chain by producing superior cross-bred cattle capable of delivering higher milk yields and improved farm incomes in the coming years.
