Food safety officials destroyed around 1,550 packets of dairy products, 100 kg of damaged food items and 7 kg of expired products during an inspection of a Zepto dark store in Jagatpura, Jaipur, on September 10. The action was carried out under Rajasthan’s “Shuddh Aahar, Milawat Par Waar” campaign, after officials found shortcomings in storage temperature, hygiene and food handling at the facility.
The cold room and deep freezer were found operating at temperatures between 6°C and 14°C, prompting officials to destroy milk, curd and buttermilk packets from brands including Saras and Amul. Around 100 kg of damaged food was also found without the required “Not for Sale” marking, while the 7 kg of expired products included muesli, candy and bhujia.
The inspection also identified serious hygiene deficiencies, including paan masala and tobacco-spit marks around the dark store and cold room, dirty walls, and broken, dirty and rusted metal racks used for food storage. Officials issued a notice to the operator and directed immediate corrective action on temperature control, storage practices and sanitation.
The central team collected samples of Pintola peanut butter and honey for testing at the State Central Food Laboratory; legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act could follow if adulteration or non-compliance is established. The facility reportedly handles around 500 orders a day, highlighting the importance of robust cold-chain, inventory-control and hygiene systems in rapid-delivery food operations.
