Demand of packaged milk drops in Indore

A decline in packaged milk sales due to subdued demands amid surge in daily collection has left Indore cooperative dugdh sangh worried, looking for markets outside Indore.

To sell surplus stock of milk, Indore dugdh sangh is tying up with Bundelkhand dugdh sangh. Dr RK Doorwar, CEO, Indore Cooperative Dugdh Sangh said, “Sales of packaged milk have dropped leaving a good amount of surplus with us.

Packaged milk sales may further drop in the rainy season because the availability of loose milk increases in the market. We are roping in cooperatives to sell surplus milk to them.”

He said that milk collection remained high throughout this season leading to high mounting inventory of power and milk. Daily milk collection from farmers this season had touched a high of around 4 lakh litre in Jan before slipping to 2.7 lakh litre at present (still high in comparison to same period previous year). At present, there is a sale of 2.4 lakh litre milk daily, according to Indore Cooperative Dugdh Sangh.

The cooperation is converting surplus milk into powder and butter but it is not yielding good profit due to low prices in market. TNN
