Dairy Vending machine units must keep adulteration testing kits
1. Dairy Units engaged in sale of milk and milk products through vending/kiosk machines and similar dispensing systems to strengthen food safety compliance ;In line with endeavor to achieve an appropriate level of protection of human life and health and the protection of consumer’s interests, including fair practices in all kinds of food trade with reference to food safety standards and practices;
2. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) encourages all Food Business Operators (FBOs) engaged in the sale of milk and milk products through vending machines, kiosks, and similar dispensing systems to adopt measures that strengthen food safety, consumer interests, transparency and trust in the safety and quality of milk and milk products.
3. To curb adulteration in milk and milk products in the country, compliance by dairy manufacturers involved in sale of packaged/fresh food from temporary or fixed vending machine/kiosk by an individual or by automation becomes crucial for ensuring safety, quality and standard of dairy products.
4. In view of the above, to ensure food safety, consumer confidence and interests, transparency and to encourage participatory food safety culture all dairy manufacturers who are involved in sale of milk/milk products through vending/kiosk machine are directed to keep or make available; FSSAI-approved/validated rapid test kits at the vending/kiosk location for basic detection of common adulterants in milk/milk products. 5. Further, following should also be ensured by the concerned dairy units;
1. Display simple instructions on “How to Use the Rapid Test Kit”.
2. Facilitate consumer self-checking, by either: Allowing consumers to use kits at the kiosk area, OR Keeping the kits for demonstration by trained staff
3. Ensure that kits used arewithin validity period and stored as per manufacturer’s guidelines.
4. Monitor and Keep a record of results and utilization of such testing kits.
