Suzuki unveils second biogas plant in India

Suzuki Motor Corp. has unveiled its second biogas plant in India, located in Bhukhala, Gujarat, marking a significant step in integrating dairy waste into clean energy production. The facility, opened in January, processes around 100 tonnes of cow dung per day and produces approximately 1.5 tonnes of biogas daily, which is converted into methane for use in compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and sold via an on-site filling station.
The plant operates by fermenting cow dung sourced from local farmers, highlighting a circular economy model that not only supports renewable energy generation but also enhances farmer incomes. The project has been developed as part of a demonstration initiative led by Suzuki in collaboration with a local dairy industry association, showcasing the potential of dairy-linked bioenergy solutions at scale.
Biogas derived from cattle waste is considered a carbon-neutral fuel, aligning with sustainability goals while addressing waste management challenges in the dairy sector. The initiative underscores the growing convergence of dairy and clean energy industries, with such models offering dual benefits of environmental sustainability and additional revenue streams for farmers.
