Nanobubbles Revolutionize Dairy Wastewater Treatment
South Dakota State University (SDSU) researchers have introduced nanobubble technology to enhance dairy wastewater treatment, offering a sustainable and chemical-free solution. Associate Professor Maneesha Mohan and her team applied this innovation at Valley Queen Cheese in Milbank, South Dakota, achieving significant improvements in wastewater quality. Nanobubbles, being 2,500 times smaller than a grain of salt, remain stable in liquids for extended periods, allowing them to effectively break down pollutants.
The implementation led to a 134% increase in dissolved oxygen and notable reductions in suspended solids and oxygen demand, eliminating the need for added chemicals. This advancement not only enhances environmental sustainability but also offers a cost-effective approach for the dairy industry to manage wastewater.
