Johor Sets 3 Million-Litre Fresh Milk Target for 2026
In a bold move to scale its dairy self-reliance, the Malaysian state of Johor has set a goal of producing over 3 million litres of fresh milk in 2026 under the Jemaluang Dairy Valley (JDV) Sdn Bhd project. More than 1,000 pregnant cows imported from Australia will form the core herd, and the state expects to hit 4–5 million litres the following year, eventually building output to about 12 million litres annually within five years.
Each cow is expected to yield about 35 litres per milking session, with milking beginning by January–March 2026. By ramping up local fresh milk supply, Johor aims to reduce reliance on expensive dairy imports and strengthen its domestic dairy value chain.
Industry Insight:
For Indian dairy equipment, automation and feed-system providers, Johor’s plan signals a clear demand pull for modern dairy infrastructure, herd genetics and collection/processing systems in Southeast Asia. A dairy market aiming to boost supply by 20% offers opportunity — but success will depend on integration across farm, feed-supply, chilling, processing, and logistics.
