‘Dairy Green’ Targets India’s Fodder Gap

Crystal Crop Protection Ltd has launched ‘Dairy Green’, a hybrid fodder seed, aimed at improving milk productivity and reducing feed costs for India’s dairy farmers ahead of the kharif season, addressing the sector’s persistent shortage of quality fodder.
The company stated that the new seed offers high biomass yield, increased crude protein content, and better palatability, enabling farmers to enhance livestock nutrition while lowering overall feeding expenses. (Devdiscourse)
The initiative comes at a time when India’s livestock sector continues to face a significant deficit in quality feed, with many farmers still dependent on crop residues and common grazing lands for animal nutrition.
As part of a broader 2026 fodder development initiative, the rollout will focus on key dairy regions including Haryana, Punjab, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, which play a crucial role in the country’s fodder cultivation ecosystem.
Industry leaders highlighted that improving fodder quality is critical to boosting milk yields, strengthening farmer incomes, and enhancing overall dairy productivity, positioning innovations like ‘Dairy Green’ as a potential step toward addressing structural feed challenges in India’s dairy sector.
