Research shows FOPNL reduces the intent to buy unhealthy options while encouraging healthier ones, particularly when labels are clear and visible. This evidence-based system also supports broader policies like marketing restrictions, school food guidelines, and health-related taxes. However, challenges arise with ultra-processed foods, often high in sugars, unhealthy fats, and sodium, designed for long shelf life and profitability. These foods contribute to health risks such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, emphasizing the importance of effective labeling to combat their growing prevalence.
