News of the fortnight- With the FSSAI authorities struggling to effectively monitor and control the malpractice of food adulteration, over the past three years, nearly 22% of milk and milk product samples tested in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh were found non-compliant with safety standards, raising public health concerns. Data from the Union health ministry revealed that out of 39,235 samples analyzed in the northern region, 8,608 failed the test.
Haryana recorded the highest failure rate, with over 28% of 12,165 samples deemed unfit for consumption. Himachal Pradesh saw nearly 24% of its 6,082 samples failing, while Punjab had 3,712 out of 20,988 samples non-conforming. Legal action was taken against violators, with 3,420 cases filed in Punjab alone.
