Sundarini, a Sundarbans-based milk cooperative and livestock producer, has won international laurels along with the National Dairy Development Board at the third International Dairy Federation at Paris on Friday. The Dairy Innovation Awards 2024 was awarded for sustainable farming practices.Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee congratulated members of the Sundarini cooperative.
She posted on X: “I am delighted to share another triumphant tale involving our intrepid Sundarbans women.”
“Our milk cooperative Sundarini (Sundarban Cooperative Milk Union & Livestock Producers’ Union) and NDDB have collaboratively secured a prestigious international award from the illustrious International Dairy Federation. The distinguished award was bestowed upon us at the third IDF Dairy Innovation Awards held in the resplendent city of Paris, France on Friday for our Innovative and Sustainable Farming Practices. We emerged victorious from an impressive field of 153 entries from across the globe,” Banerjee wrote.
Sundarini, a cooperative milk union under the auspices of the animal resources development department, comprises 4,500 enterprising women farmers in South 24 Parganas district, with a daily milk production of 2,000 litres and processed milk products amounting to 250 kg per day.
During fiscal year 2023-24, the milk union generated income of approximatelyRs 4 crore.
